Since 1962, Merced College has been offering a place for students to equip themselves with the knowledge, wisdom, and skills they need to make a difference in their communities and the world at large. Our California community college offers a wide range of programs and degrees designed to empower and challenge our students so that they can be prepared for whatever life ends up throwing at them. If you are an individual looking for online and/or hybrid classes (in addition to traditional on-campus classes), short-term career training, or continuing education courses, we have opportunities we are excited to share in today’s post!

Welcome to the official and inaugural Merced College blog space! As we mentioned above, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to highlight our wide range of programs and degrees. But before we get too far into the details, we think it’s important for our prospective students, and readership in general, to understand a bit of the background regarding our California community college. So without further ado, we’ll dive right in.

Merced College – An Institution Where You Can Start Your Future

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

The Greek philosopher Socrates is credited with the idea that knowing the good is akin to doing the good. Indeed, the foundational premise of our institution is such that our students must understand who they are, what they’re capable of, and what society might request of them. Our California community college offers 77 associate degree programs, 180 full-time professors who serve over 15,000 students, $28 million in financial aid awards every year, and roughly 83,000 print books housed in our library!

Those are simply figures, and figures only go so far to express the essence of an institution, be it one of the best California community colleges or otherwise. We are more than stats — we are a genuine community here at Merced College. We strive to break preconceived notions about what a community college experience is actually like by providing transformative and empowering education experiences in addition to a wealth of community-based campus programs

We’ll touch more on those later, but our point is that the search for knowledge is one of the noblest human endeavors there is; not for its own sake, mind you, but because once we understand how we can contribute, it is only then that we are able to execute such difference-making activity. Students looking to “be the difference” they want to see in the world find Merced as a perfect launching pad. Whether you are interested in agriculture, art, health sciences, nutrition, computer science, teacher preparation, economics, psychology, nursing, engineering, welding, theatre, business, automotive technology, biology, or otherwise, we are confident that Merced is a place to begin your lifelong journey.

Students are our focus and we are known by their success.”

For the remainder of this post (along with our next article), we’d like to take the time to highlight our degrees and certificates, online and hybrid classes, short-term career training, and continuing education opportunities. Keep in mind that in future posts, we’ll get into much greater detail about each of the aforementioned areas of focus, but for now, we want our prospective students to be able to familiarize themselves with Merced College in a general sense. So keep reading if you’d like to do exactly that!

Degrees And Certificates – Earn Your Associate’s Degree In California

The beauty of attending a community college can be found in the ability to keep your options open. We believe that learning is a continual process of self-discovery, with plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way. Think about the fact that about 80 percent of students in the United States will change their major at least one time! Likewise, the average student is likely to change their major three times over the course of their college career. This makes sense as well, seeing as how most students coming straight out of high school are still learning about who they are and their place in this world. Instead of pigeon-holing yourself into a specialized future with no wiggle-room, community college represents a potentially wise choice.

Merced College, in particular, has the unique relationships with the University of California and California State University systems so that students can seamlessly transition from a two-year to a four-year college. Students can save a sizeable amount of money while earning an associate’s degree while fulfilling the lower division requirements they’d be spending much more on to take at a four-year school. What’s more, we at Merced College encourage our students to have an open mind about their future. It’s amazing to see the untapped potential of so many students, only to have their eyes opened to a future they could never have dreamed of on their own!

Certificates Of Achievement

If you are a student who happens to be considering taking only the occupational major area classes, you will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement from Merced College. Once you’ve completed the final occupational major area course with a minimum 2.0 GPA (12 credits must be completed), you’ll receive your certificate. You can find additional degree and course information by clicking through on the link provided above.

Online & Hybrid Classes

Another attractive aspect of our top California community college is that students can get a college education while juggling other components of their busy lives. Flexibility is key in 2018, and we at Merced College do our best to mold our offerings around the schedules of our students. What’s more, students still receive the same level of personal interaction with professors and classmates that they would in a face-to-face class.

Some of our courses afford our students the ability to attend some classes in person and others online. These “hybrid” courses offer the best of both worlds — we understand you are more than merely a student. Many of our students are mothers, fathers, and employees with other commitments. We work hard to make sure that such things to hinder you from furthering your education at a place like Merced College.

Thank You For Considering Merced

At the end of the day, we want our prospective students to understand that everything we do is to help our students explore their passions and find their career. We offer the ability to gain the skills needed while not burying yourself in debt in order to do it. Our California CC is a place of learning, community, and growth. In future posts, we’ll describe more about what we do and offer (sorry we couldn’t get to all of it today), so keep an eye out for those! If you have any questions or would like more information, don’t hesitate to contact us. Otherwise, you can enroll today!
